1. What strengths did you bring to your mentorship/internship?
The strengths that I brought were leadership, teamwork, and communication. I felt like during my internship I took the initiative to reach out to my supervisors a lot. This helped me have a clear understanding of what was expected of me and how I could do my best at the job. I took a leadership role and used teamwork skills by working with Brennan so much. Him and I and then even the other intern Jojo all worked together to find the best ways to contact companies. During our calls we had open discussions where I always stepped up and shared my opinion and felt like that helped me grow a lot.
2. What were your major weaknesses? What personal qualities could you have improved during your experience?
I would say my major weaknesses were time constraints and lack of knowledge at the beginning. Due to football and having to go home and help my mom out a lot sometimes I could not get what I wanted done as fast as I would have hoped. I always held up my word and finished everything, but typically I like to work faster. My mom moved over the summer and she now lives by herself and I had to go help and do about everything since all of my other siblings live further away. Although it was not the ideal situation and I did work through it I think I could have set up a better schedule to help myself with this. At the beginning I was unsure of how to send the emails and what exactly to sell and I wish I could have a few of the first brands I reached out to back because they were good opportunities where I think I could have sold the clients better.
3. Do you feel you adequately satisfied the duties expected of you by the sponsoring organization? Why or why not?
Yes I do, I was in contact with both of my supervisors a lot and they always seemed pleased with my ideas and the work that I was putting together. I was always trying to think outside of the box and sharing my ideas with them.
4. Do you feel you adequately satisfied the time requirements (150/200 clock hours) of the internship?
Yes I do I ended up working around 220 hours I believe it was. Since I was not able to put in 8 to 10 hour days the ability to work from March til August allowed me to get my hours in and do everything I could.
5. What helpful suggestions would you make to future interns/mentees in your position?
I would say just make sure you take the time each day to reflect on what you have done and take notes every day. A lot of times you can learn something that can be applied the next day or in another situation just because you took 10 minutes to reflect on what has worked and has not worked for you.
6. What did you gain from your experience? How will this experience help you when you leave Tiffin University?
I gained great knowledge in sales, communication, and marketing. My knowledge on the NIL stuff was pretty minimal before this internship and now I feel like I have a great understanding of it and how it works. I learned a lot about how to sell a client and what businesses are looking for. They need proof of success a lot of times to gain credibility especially in a new subject such as NIL. This will help me when I leave Tiffin by giving me the knowledge and experience of how to type an email, how to professionally talk to companies, and how to appeal to different markets and what the best outlets of communication are.
7. What overall grade do you feel you earned through your mentorship/internship experience? _________ Justify your response.
I would say I earned a low A or a high B, because I put a lot of work in towards this internship. Compared to the other interns I always felt like I was the one stepping out of my comfort zone and speaking up during meetings and that I created a lot of the ideas that we implemented. Although I did not reach my goals of getting deals during the internship I believe I set my goals too high because I did not understand it completely at the beginning. After talking with my supervisors and learning more about it I believe that I gained great experience and a lot of companies learned about NPM and what they do.
